Committee Communications

Posted as received from Mandy Wright, Nottinghamshire CCC:

Dear all,

As you will be aware, instructions in relation to public spaces, outdoor activities and exercise during the ongoing coronavirus crisis have recently been revised by the government.

The new government guidance is available for you to read here…

I am writing to draw your attention to the guidelines that have been put in place by the England & Wales Cricket Board, in response to the instructions from central government, regarding clubs and their facilities at this time.

The guidance in full is attached, and I would strongly recommend reading both the government and ECB documents, and considering the respective contents in detail, prior to permitting any access to your facilities.

It is important to note that clubs are not obliged to open their facilities at this time, and that you are advised by the ECB not to do so if meeting the safety requirements is deemed unachievable.

With the situation constantly evolving, the ECB have committed to keeping the guidance under review. I will continue to endeavour to share any significant developments.

Joe Fish and Andrew Wilson, Club Development Officers will be returning from furlough for an short time and will be available for support and guidance from Monday.

Kind regards,

Mandy

Dear all,

Further to the ECB’s recent announcement that recreational cricket is suspended in all its forms, I wanted to write to you to begin to explain what this means for cricket in Nottinghamshire.

In summary, the ECB have recommended that all matches, training and any associated cricket activity – be they in schools, clubs or other community locations – cease immediately for what, as it stands, is an indefinite period.

With immediate effect, The Sobers, Hadlee and Woodhead Halls at Trent Bridge will be closed to the public. We will be in touch with all net users to explain this process.

I’m sure you will appreciate that now is a very difficult time to make meaningful plans, but please be assured that we will be in touch as soon as we are in a position to provide further updates.

For those who haven’t seen it elsewhere, a copy of the ECB’s recent media release is below.

ECB Statement on the Recreational Game

ECB statement on the recreational game in the light of the developing COVID-19 situation.

‘’Following the Government’s latest advice around social distancing, it is with sadness and reluctance that we recommend that all forms of recreational cricket are for now suspended.

“This extends to training, pre-season friendlies and any associated cricket activity.

“Sport plays an absolutely vital role in the nation’s mental and physical wellbeing, and it helps people find meaning where there is fear and uncertainty, so one of our goals in the coming weeks will be to explore ways that we can support some levels of physical activity in communities - particularly at junior levels.

“Using our cricket community to support others could be one of the most important services we can offer during the difficult next few months.

“It will be critical that any decisions we do make are medically-led. And we will continue to work with Government and their advisors to ensure we are informed by science in our decision making.

“Over the coming weeks we will work with the game to understand what support is required across the cricket community, particularly local clubs and leagues - who will have such a huge role to play in our nation’s response to coming out of this situation."

All Nottinghamshire Cricket Board officers will continue in their mission to support the entirety of the county’s recreational cricket network and the individual challenges you and your organisations will be facing at this time.

You will find a full directory of our officers and their portfolio areas by following the link below.

During this period, we will be working with clubs and leagues to understand what support you require. We will be in touch with all clubs to understand what issues you are going to face during this period of suspension and what long term effects this may have. We will also be working with leagues, to support with fixtures and getting cricket going when we get the all clear.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Kind regards,

Mandy Wright
